If you saw someone else’s $1,000 pen, would you pocket it? Ken did.

In 2012, at the Collin County Courthouse, someone accidentally left behind a sentimental gift from their wife at the security screening area. It wasn’t just a simple writing utensil, but rather a $1,000 Montblanc pen.

A review of security footage later showed then-State Senator Ken Paxton walking through the checkpoint, picking up the tray that wasn’t his, and slipping one of the pens into his pocket.

Instead of coming forward to return the obviously expensive pen, Ken Paxton left the building. It wasn’t until the Sheriff personally reviewed the tape and recognized him that Paxton was contacted.

Only then—after being caught—did Paxton admit he had it and return the expensive pen through a deputy.

His team called it a “simple mistake.” But most people don’t “accidentally” pocket someone else’s $1,000 pen at a courthouse.

Weird, right?
